Requirements for roofs in France

 General requirements

• The roof has been renovated within the last five years or will be renovated in the near future so that planning for a solar power installation can be included.
• The building will remain in use for at least 20 years.
• The roof surface is not overshadowed by trees or buildings.
• A medium-voltage power line belonging to the energy utility (10kV or 20kV) is located in the immediate vicinity of the building.

 Additional requirements for flat roofs

• The surface of the flat roof must be at least 6000 square metres.
• The roof can bear an additional load of at least 20 kg per square metre.
• The roof is located in a sunny region, e.g. southern France or Rhône-Alpes.

 Additional requirements for pitched roofs

• The surface of the pitched roof is at least 3000 square metres.
• This surface may be distributed over a number of buildings on the same property.
• The roof can bear an additional load of at least 15 kg per square metre.
• The roof is predominantly south-facing.
• The inclination of the roof is at least 10°.
